seattle historic hike
Friday, May 1
Interested in earning the Seattle Historic Hike award (note: this is completely separate from the Historic Trails Award given by BSA National)? This is a Council-specific award. Scouts may earn a patch and/or a medal, depending upon whether they write a report afterward. The cost of the patch/medal is borne by the Scout’s parents (unless your troop has a different policy.)
We plan to take the 10:15 walk-on ferry from Bremerton to Seattle (arrive Seattle ferry terminal about 11:15). The hike is approximately five miles total, with some hills. It begins five blocks from the ferry. There is a map and information at http://www.seattlebsa.org/sbsa_volunteers/VolandScoutsDocs/SeattleHistoricalHike.PDF. It’s not a very GOOD map, but you should be able to get the idea. Better maps are available online, or usually on the ferry. Our plan is to return on the 4:20 (arriving Bremerton approximately 5:20), though that may be modified depending upon how quickly (or slowly!) we walk. We’ll be using the Educational Discount for the ferry. There is no charge to Scouts except for when we stop for lunch (they’re welcomed to bring a sack lunch).
I used gmap, and it shows as 4.2276 miles (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2748194) It adds another 3/4 mile to hike back to the “free zone” to catch the bus to the ferry (but I’m cheap, so we’ll be doing that).
Wear your uniforms, and bring a small day pack including WATER.
Please let us know if you’ll be joining us!
