Amtrak Schools on Trains

Although intended for schools, Amtrak is happy to extend this to Boy Scouts. For $12 round-trip, Scouts can travel to Portland and back. With advance preparation (worksheets and aids), and a tour of Union Station, Scouts should be able to complete their badges on the 3 hour trip down and back.

Kitsap Live Steamers

Not your typical model railroad! Join the engineers twice monthly for rides on this painstakingly restored miniature train. Jackson & Lund in Port Orchard.

Chehalis & Centralia Railroad and Museum

Fulfill both parts of requirement 8b at once as you visit their museum, then take a ride on this historic steam train. With a little convincing, your parents might even be willing to make it the dinner train excursion!

North Olympic Peninsula Railroaders

Looking for the Model Railroading option? NOPR (Sequim) can set up merit badge sessions for you, where you can visit with experts who have built their own layouts. If you’re interested in model railroading, they have some wonderful photos on their website!
