medicine

requirement 7a – doctor’s visit

Visit a physician’s office, preferably one who delivers “primary care.” (This may be that of your counselor.) Discuss the components of a medical history and physical examination (an official BSA health form may be used to guide this discussion), and become familiar with the instruments used.

Do you know of local physicians who are willing to help Scouts with this requirement?

If you have base access, Dr. Debra Kohli at Bremerton Naval Hospital will incorporate it into a regular office visit.

requirement 10- health fair or blood drive

Serve as a volunteer at a health-related event or facility in your community (e.g. blood drive, “health fair”, blood pressure screening, etc.) approved by your counselor.

Where, oh where, am I going to find THAT?!

It’s surprisingly easy! Scouts can volunteer to man the refreshments or be a gopher at a blood drive in Kitsap county. You won’t be able to do anything medically-related because of your age, but the experience and knowledge you’ll gain from watching and talking to the experts is invaluable.

If you have military base access, Naval Hospital Bremerton, Bangor Subase, and Keyport hold frequent blood drives. Scouts are welcomed to help. Find the next one here. Contact LTC Susan Alleyn or the Public Affairs Office.

Local Red Cross blood drives can be found here.
Local UBS drives can be found here.
