Family Life Project Ideas
Both requirements 4 and 5 of the Family Life merit badge require a project:
4. With the approval of your parents or guardians and your merit badge counselor, decide on and carry out a project that you would do around the home that would benefit your family. Submit a report to your merit badge counselor outlining how the project benefited your family.
5. Plan and carry out a project that involves the participation of your family. After completing the project, discuss the following with your merit badge counselor:
a. The objective or goal of the project
b. How individual members of your family participated
c. The results of the project
The most difficult part of the FAMILY LIFE merit badge is actually figuring out what to do for a project! The project should be substantial and not part of your regular chores. Make sure to have it approved by your merit badge counselor before beginning. Here are a few ideas from Scouts to get you started:
* Clean out and rearrange your mom’s cabinets to make them more efficient. (Mike)
* Repaint the bathroom and fix the tiles on the floor.
* Build a trellis in the garden. (Gabe)
* Reroof an outbuilding. (Jordon)
* One Scout painted his room, installed shelves, put up a closet pole and supports, and installed trim. (David)
* Do something from your Dad’s ‘honey-do’ list that he’s never going to get around to.
* Clean out your rain gutters.
* Paint (or repaint) your street numbers in a reflective paint so they can be seen at night.

* Install a zinc strip on the roof to keep moss from growing. (Gary)
* Label all the digital pictures on your parents’ computer with meaningful descriptions rather than numbers.
